Houston Bears Board Response to COVID-19 and remaining 2020 Events and Activities

Houston Bears Members:

I, Tony Fernandez, the Houston Bears Board President, along with the members of the board want to thank each of you for being a member and your participation in all activities, events, and functions.  As many of you are aware COVID-19 is not going away and in fact the rates of exposure and positive testing is increasing for many reasons (economy opening up, more testing, etc.).  The city has also initiated a new face mask order.  As a club, we want to make sure that each member stays healthy, so we are taking some necessary actions to keep everyone that way.  Beginning today, all Houston Bears activities, events and functions will be suspended until further notice.  The board will continue to have monthly Zoom Board meetings to discuss the status of the club’s activities and meetings are open to any full members to attend.  If you would like to attend a board meeting, just contact any of the board members.  We will also continue to have Monthly Zoom General Meetings to check in with all members.  Due to the suspension of the activities, events, and functions, this also affects contributions to our charities.  I will be contacting our 2020 charities, Pet Patrol and HIV & Aging Coalition, to let them know that due to the current situation, we will be carrying them over to be our 2021 charities.  If anyone has any ideas of how to raise money in a safe manner during this pandemic, please let us know.  I will also be contacting the vendors for Bear Tubing to let them know that at this time, we will be canceling the event unless there are any changes in the situation.
I do not want to discourage our Bear Members to continue to meet with each other in small groups, considering all the precautions that need to be taken to keep everyone safe but there will not be any sanctioned Houston Bears activities, events or functions at this time.
Due to the hard work of the club and all its members, club membership is currently at 159 members, the highest it has been in years and we would like to continue to grow the organization and give back to the community.  Each Houston Bears Member is a vital component to this club and we want everyone to have a voice, so please reach out to me at [email protected] or any other board member with feedback on this issue and suggestions on how to keep the club growing and prospering.
